Shopping in a recession
We have been warned of an imminent recession for many months now, and as we begin to feel the real effects of its existence most of us are attempting to cut back on our spending.
Many jobs have been lost and many more are expected to go, if the doom and gloom media reports are to be believed.
But what about keeping up with fashion trends? Many long established high street shops are disappearing as they suffer from drops in sales.
So how can we cut back on our spending when it comes to fashion, while still looking great and on trend?
There are a couple of ways of approaching this dilemma. The first is to find bargain clothes in the perpetual sales that some well known stores are having. It is often a good idea to buy out of season clothes as these are more readily available and are usually more reasonably priced.
So, for example, if you are shopping in summer, look for jumpers and heavy weight coats, and shop in winter for summer dresses, bikinis and shorts. Bargain clothes can also be found in shops like Primark, where you can get a basketful of clothes for a ridiculously low price.
The draw back here is that these clothes are not made to last in your wardrobe as old favourites for years to come. The other option is to buy quality designer wear. This may not sound like a cautious approach with your money. However, the big difference between the cheap end of the market and the more costly is the fact that the latter will probably last much longer.
Choose classic designs rather than outrageously fashionable items. The designer clothes you buy now will still be being worn in a few years time, provided you do not buy something that will date within months.
A great way to get a new wardrobe without having to fork out any money at all is to have a clothes swap party and invite all the friends whose clothes you like. If you all bring 5 or 6 items that you no longer wear, you are bound to find that a friend has brought along something you want.
A brilliant way to get some unusual outfits into your wardrobe at a really amazing price is from charity shops.
If second hand clothing is not your style, you can grab yourself a bargain online by shopping around. If you are looking for a designer outfit at a bargain price, the internet is the place to look.
